TECAJI POLETNE UNIVERZE IN CENTRA CRC NA CEU V BUDIMPESTI Open Society Institute-Slovenia vabi k udelezbi na tecaje Poletne Univerze in Centra Curriculum Resource na Centralnoevropski univerzi (CEU) v Budimpesti na Madzarskem Poletna univerza (SUN) je akademski program, namenjen univerzitetnim profesorjem, administratorjem in profesionalcem. Na voljo so tecaji s podrocja druzbenih ved in humanistike, ki naj bi spodbudili in predstavili regionalno akademsko sodelovanje ter razvijali ucni program, tako da bi vkljucevali mlado ucno osebje v predavanja, seminarje ali delavnice. Rok za prijave je 15. januar 2001. Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) na Centralnoevropski univerzi v Budimpesti organizira enotedenske delavnice za razvoj studijskega programa, namenjene profesorjem in/ali profesionalcem s podrocja druzbenih ved in humanistike, ki razvijajo nove univerzitetne predmete ali popravljajo ze obstojece. Delavnice vkljucujejo obiske predavalnic, delo v knjiznici in okrogle mize. Udelezencem iz srednje in vzhodne Evrope in nekdanje Sovjetske zveze krijemo vse stroske. GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSES In order to embark on studies at a German institution of higher education you have to take a language examination first (formerly the "PNdS", now the "DSH - Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber"). You can only be exempted from the DSH if you - have taken the Goethe Institute's minor or major German language diploma ("Kleines/Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom") - have passed the Goethe Institute's advanced level Central Language Test ("Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung") - have obtained the German Language Certificate, Level II of the German Standing Conference of Ministers of Education ("Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz, KMK, Stufe II") - have a higher education entrance qualification from a German school abroad ("Abitur"). You can find out more about the DSH at the Foreign Student Office. Quite apart from the fact that you need the German language in order to sit the examination and pursue your studies, your knowledge of German will be one of the main factors determining how happy you feel in Germany. If you have not managed to acquire a solid grounding in German before leaving your own country you will lose a lot of time and often feel rather isolated. So do attend German courses at your own institution of higher education, the Goethe Institute, or other language schools abroad. There are preparatory language courses at many institutions in Germany, but without a good basic knowledge of the language you will not be eligible. In order to be accepted for preparatory courses in other subjects ("Studienkolleg") you have to prove that your German is good enough. If you arrive in Germany able to take the DSH straight away you will be in an ideal position for studying and living here. German Courses in Preparation for Your Studies In order to be eligible to participate you have to have been admitted to the institution and present proof of a good basic knowledge of the language (at least 400 teaching hours). Unfortunately, the number of places is not always commensurate with actual demand. The courses are usually 20 hours per week and start about six weeks before the semester begins. The DSH comes at the end of the intermediary course. German Courses Accompanying Your Studies These courses are intended for students who have passed the DSH but want to continue improving their German. At many institutions you can also attend German courses with subject specializations which will be of great use to you when it comes to writing seminar papers. If you want to work on your German outside the framework of the institution you are recommended to turn to the Goethe Institute, the Adult Education Centre ("Volkshochschule" - VHS), or other municipal educational institutions. By the way, there may be quite a few German students, especially language students, who might be keen to learn your own language. Sometimes the Foreign Student Offices keep lists with the names of those interested. Enquire about the so-called Tandem System or, if time allows, put up a notice on the notice-board in your department or in the Philosophical Faculty offering your language in exchange for lessons in German. Course Languages for Postgraduate Studies Please note that on certain post-graduate courses you may be required to have a good knowledge of English and possibly French and Spanish, too. Some post-graduate courses are entirely run in English. Information on which languages are used in which post-graduate courses can be found in the DAAD brochure "Post-graduate Studies at Institutions of Higher Education in Germany" as well as in a publication by the German Universities Association ("Hochschulrektorenkonferenz") entitled "Weiterführende Studienangebote an den Hochschulen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
