MISTAKES AND PREJUDICE ABOUT SCOUTING

 - SCOUTS ONLY PUT UP TENTS, LIGHT FIRES AND MAKE KNOTS...
That is only a little piece of scouting. It is not our intention to train our members how to survive in nature. We have higher goals in our minds. We want to make good people and also good citizens. We try to evolve their physical, mental, social and spiritual potentials every way possible. We could say that there is no such thing that scouts do not deal with: sports, computers, spirituality, ecology, hiking, artistic and musical creativity...

- ALL SCOUTS ARE BOYS...
Not even close! There is no lack of girls at all. Girls represent a half of our scout group. In some scout groups the girls are in majority and their problem is how to bring in more boys.

- SCOUTS ARE HALF MILITARY...
This is far from the truth. The assemblies, raising of the flag and cleaning the tents are there for the purposes of teaching the children the basis of order and discipline. Otherwise we try to offer as much democracy and freedom as possible. We try to keep good, friendly relationship between leaders and other members, and we try to make decisions together with the younger members.

- LEADERS ARE WELL PAID FOR THEIR WORK...
We do everything on voluntary basis, often even on our expense.


WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW SOMETHING MORE?

The Scout Association of Slovenia (Zveza tabornikov Slovenije = ZTS) came into existence in 1951 on the basis of the pre-war scouting and wood-craft Indians. At the moment it counts 9.000 members. The Scout Association of Slovenia is one of the members of WOSM (World Organisation of Scout Movement).

Home page of Slovenian Catholic Scouts will tell you some facts about ZSKSS, which is the other Slovenian scout organisation (not a member of WOSM). This organisation originated in 1990 and it has 2000 members.
